I Thought The Point Of Halloween Was To Be Offensive
I saw on the news the other day that this costume was being pulled from Target's website because it was deemed 'offensive':

Now, as usual, I will bypass the obvious political arguments and go after the first thing my mind settled on-- since when are Americans concerned about whom they might offend on Halloween? I generalize here, because I wouldn't be caught dead in any of the costumes I feature here, as I'm sure many people wouldn't. But all of these other getups I show were found available on Target's website this morning, when I could no longer find Mr. Illegal Alien...

Where are all of the offended nurses in the world, and why are they not speaking up?

Or how about the Church when it comes to "Holy Crap" here?

This one is called the "Inflatable Highlander", but we've all seen "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me". We know his real name.

I guess PETA has really dropped the ball on this one...
So my point is just this: right or wrong, why was this one particular costume offensive enough to warrant news coverage? I don't even want my children out after dark on Halloween for fear of all the inappropriate visual stimuli I would be stuck explaining. So, in the interest of social and political correctness, why don't we just ban Halloween-- or every holiday, for that matter? Because all of them offend somebody...
