It's A Bird! It's A Plane!
My nearly 4 year old has all the important parts of her life figured out already. She's just working on a few details. I truly wouldn't be surprised if she accomplishes it all.
My favorite part is also the most consistent: she plans to be a superhero when she grows up. She has said this for months now. She is, however, having a hard time on deciding on her "summer job". Yes, you read that right. my preschooler apparently feels that it is necessary for a superhero to maintain separate employment during the summer months. Sometimes she wants to be a teacher or a doctor. Once it was a princess. Most recently she decided she would spend the warmest part of the year as a waitress.
I asked her not long ago what a superhero does that makes it such a desirable life for her to pursue. I loved her answer: "Well, Mommy, a superhero finds people who need help and rescues them." That right there is why I am so sure she will achieve this particular dream. While her career path may or may not involve tights or a cape, there are certainly so many 'real' jobs out there that fit her description of superhero. But there is no way I'm going to say that to her right now. I can't bring myself to burst that do-it-all comic book heroine bubble of hers. She should believe that being a part-time princess is an option for as long as possible.
